Writers are readers.
As a romance writer, I’m always checking out what’s new in the genre, whether that’s scanning the bestseller lists or browsing my favorite small bookstore here in Edmonds, Washington, a beautiful suburb of Seattle.
I ‘m definitely blessed. Just outside my window are views of the Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound. We have a beautiful beach less than a ten-minute drive from my home, so sitting on the beach, reading a book during the spring and summer, is just the best!!!
I read a lot of fiction, but right now I’m deep into my second favorite genre: European history. . The book is, “Tower: An epic History of the Tower of London.” by Nigel Jones. I’m fascinated by history, especially English history. I’m also slightly addicted to the Tower of London. I’ve been there four times and still revel in the many stories and secrets that are a part of this fabled structure. Traitors’ Gate, where royal prisoners arrived by boat; the place where Anne Boleyn was executed under Henry VIII; and the messages left behind by doomed prisoners, scratched into stone.
I also try to read something for my heart and health. These are books that are meant to be be savored, and their prose help to “center me” and reinforce my beliefs that self-reflection is a very valuable tool for an author. Right now, I’m reading and meditating through “A Gentle Reminder” by Bianca Sparacino. My husband gave it to me for Christmas and each page “reminds” me of my strength, and the positive things that I have and deserve.
On the writing front, I’m continuing to market my first book in the Hilltown Series “Journey Back to You”, and have started my second book “Journey Back to Me”. I hope to have it finished by the holiday season. This book will center around Kathleen’s mother, Caroline (Kathleen is the heroine of the first book) My books are romantic, but are also about the personal struggles and growth of the main characters. And while the books connect, my goal is for each story to stand alone- so you can read one and still feel completely satisfied. If you have any recommendations for great books in the genres of Romance, Women’s Fiction, European History or personal growth, please let me know! I’m always looking for a great read!
